Kuriftu Resort & Spa...

Now, this was the main reason for the trip to Debre Zeyt - The Kuriftu Resort & Spa, what a place! Situated in a very peaceful location, right by the Kuriftu lake, the resort comprises of a beauty parlour, spa, swimming pool, fully loaded cinema, the meals are served either at the dining area or brought to you in your room.

All in all, its very serene, calm, very scenic with magnificient views. A place I'd definitely recommend anytime you visit Ethiopia - it's worth it!

For more info on the resort, visit: www.kuriftu.com

It's a wonderful place, Yonaiel. I really enjoyed my visit - especially cycling into town with one of the guides. You have a very beautiful and warm country.

Looking forward to a return trip!

This place follows a business scheme to purposely sift out Ethiopian clientèle. You have to be a member paying 3000.00 birr/year just to get in past the gate. They also require you to pay 200.00 birr to get in and use the restaurant service if you are not a member, although this amount will also buy you access to use some of the resorts facilities such as the swimming pool.
I was deeply disappointed that after traveling such distance from addis we couldn't even able to get in to check the place and have a bottle of beer. They wanted us to pay the 200.00 birr day pass, huh?

Exclusivity sucks specially in country like Ethiopia where 99.999% of the people cannot afford it. Its clear though this place advertises in international prints abroad. If you are Ethiopian forget about this place. You are requiured to pay the membership fee and then pay $130.00 (dollars) or so for a standard room. Disappointing.

Hi Des,

I was unaware of these charges, I also had a really good time. I made sure I easily made use of every facility available at the time - including cycling into town with one of the resort guides, to meet the locals. I guess everything has changed(probably because I was at the resort a couple of days before it "officially" opened in Jan 2007).
I am not Ethiopian, but Nigerian and I must say I was impressd with my time at this resort. I will probably visit the place again if I can. Really sorry you were put off.

All the best, anyway...

Bekele Molla on Lake Langano some 100KM South was an incredible experience. It really felt like you are in a naturally authentic place and it is cheap. Kuriftu is expensive and bland like an all inclusive Jamaican Hotel.

I found my visit to Langano and Abijata just as peaceful as my experience at Kuriftu, but I also found that there was a lot less to do at Langano. My preference goes with Kuriftu, I'm afraid. Then again, it's been a few years since I last visited Ethiopia, so things may have changed.
